| Gambling Addiction Results in Murder of Both Parents
|
According to a story in the January 18, 1997 Associated Press,
Shanda Spears Crain, a 28-year old woman from Franklinton, Louisiana, allegedly shot both
of her parents to collect insurance money to pay off gambling debts resulting from her
addiction to video poker.
The article states, "Sheriff investigators said she was
stealing from her father's bank account and had cut phone lines to his home so the bank
could not contact him.
"The Washington Parish Sheriff Office has said the shooting
happened when Mrs. Crain went to her parent's home in Warnerton to pick up one of her
three children. She put the child in her car, returned to the house, took her father's
pistol and fired four shots, hitting each of her parents once."
HOW GHASTLY, HOW REVOLTING ARE THE RESULTS OF VIDEO SLOT COMPULSIVE
GAMBLING. IS IT REALLY NECESSARY FOR THE NEW MEXICO LEGISLATURE TO INFLICT THIS SORT OF
INFLUENCE ON OUR CITIZENS?
